Literacy All Year

The Literacy All Year Initiative provides year-round literacy materials, professional development and literacy resources.  

The experiences and materials participants receive will help support the children's literacy journey both in the class and at home which plays an important role in kindergarten readiness.

Eligibility and Participation Requirements

See if you are eligible and what is required to participate.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Programs must reside in an ALICE zip code. 
  • Valid contract with SR/VPK with ELCHC
  • Have 1 or more classrooms with 3-5 years olds
  • VPK Provider on Probation (POP)
  • Be in good standing with USDA, no Class 1 violations

Participation Requirements

  • Complete PM 1 & PM 3 FAST/STAR Assessments
  • Attend initiative specific professional development
  • Participate in coaching sessions with a Flamingo Certified Coach.
  • Complete 1 or more Family Engagement Opportunities
  • Participate in the STEM & Story Celebration at the end of the year.

Recognizing that words are separate. 

Phonological & Phonemic Awareness

Hearing the sounds in words to help children read and spell.

Knowing more words to express ideas and understand others. 

Structural Analysis

Understanding parts of words to decode, spall new words. 

Comprehension

Connecting what is read allows children to think critically and connect ideas.
