What the Child is Telling You

Practical strategies for behavior, belonging, and the real life of your classroom.

About this Course

Most behavior training treats children as problems to be managed. This course treats behavior as communication — and you as the professional who can read it.
Across seven lessons, you'll meet Peter, Aiden, Mila, Camila, and Jayden — and through them, learn to tell the difference between a child who won't and a child who can't. You'll walk away with one Monday morning plan for one real child in your room.

What you will learn by the end of the course

EXPLAIN Identify the difference between a child who won't and a child who can't — and know what to do with that difference.

EXAMINE the four behavior roots — missing skill, stress response, sensory need, and communication gap — to name the most likely root behind a behavior and the support that root calls for.

IMPLEMENT calm, connect, solve in the moment a child is having a hard time — including the step zero of settling yourself first.

DESIGN a Monday morning plan for one child in your room: what you observed, the root you named, the support you will try, and the language you will use with that child’s family.
