Foundations of Literacy: Structural Analysis

This self-paced foundational course introduces early childhood educators to structural analysis, a key component of early literacy that supports vocabulary growth and word comprehension. Educators will explore how to teach compound words, simple inflectional endings (-s, -ed, -ing), and basic prefixes and suffixes in developmentally appropriate ways. Through practical strategies and hands-on examples, participants will learn how to integrate structural analysis into daily routines, read-alouds, and play-based activities. By the end of the course, teachers will be equipped to strengthen young learners’ word knowledge and build the foundations for confident reading and language skills.
