Foundations of Literacy: Phonological & Phonemic Awareness

This self-paced foundational course introduces early childhood educators to the essential building blocks of phonological and phonemic awareness—critical skills that support early reading development. Educators will explore the basics of hearing, identifying, and manipulating sounds in spoken language, including rhyming, syllable segmentation, and beginning sound recognition. Through practical, developmentally appropriate strategies, participants will learn how to integrate these skills into daily routines, story time, and play-based activities. By the end of the course, teachers will be equipped to foster strong early literacy foundations and help young learners develop the skills they need to become confident readers.
