Susan O'Carroll
Susan received her degree in Child Development and Family Relations from Florida State University and began her career as a 2-year-old teacher in a small private childcare center. Her early experiences as a teacher, family childcare provider, director and faith-based afterschool board member led her to teach, coach and mentor early childhood providers for almost 30 years in Florida and Wisconsin. Susan is certified by the Lastinger Center at University of Florida as an Early Childhood Coach and Community of Practice Facilitator a certified CLASS Observer for infant, toddler and preschool and has been trained as a trainer for DCF, Outcome Driven Training,
Positive Behavior Supports, PREP communication and Observer Trainer for the Infant and Preschool CLASS tools. As an Instructor at Waukesha County Technical College (WI) in 2009, Susan led classes that engaged students through hands-on experiences and peer-to-peer learning opportunities that guided students to develop a resource portfolio that included activities that covered
developmental standards for teaching children three to five years in math, science, and social studies. In recent years, she has worked in multiple Early Learning Coalitions to improve quality and empower teachers to be more purposeful in their interactions with young children and as a consultant to church based early learning programs. Susan has been married for over 30 years with three grown children and eight grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys being a site host for her churchâs feeding ministry and helping in the childrenâs ministry, spending time with her grandchildren, camping, kayaking, and tandem cycling with her husband.
